:: artist's statement
Existing subconsciously much of the time, we wander through a labyrinth of ever-changing emotions every day. My figures however, are frozen in time. The models, revealing themselves, are captured in the process of being. Life is magically bestowed upon us. We are all trying to make our way. We share a common ground of being. It is that which deeply touches me. As my work in sculpture develops, my hope is that it stands as a reminder of what it’s like to be human in our despair, elation, strength, powerlessness, sensuality, passion and desolation. Each piece is important only as a vehicle for a journey. If successful, the destination will illuminate the viewer’s own personal experience in a quiet and subtle way. Perhaps, to be unconscious of our shared humanity is to live nearsighted on a mountaintop.
“Among the finest works in the exhibition are Squires’ sculptures, both for imaginativeness of conception and the perfection of her finished work…” Mary Cassai, Freeman Press
